The Russian Embassy expressed indignation at the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers in Latvia

“With a feeling of deep indignation, they received the news of the dismantling of memorials in Daugavpils and on the Friendship Mound,” the Telegram message says.

The embassy added that the Latvian authorities do not take into account the opinion of hundreds of thousands of Latvian residents and continue to "defiantly mock the memory of the fallen heroes"

“We are convinced that any attempts to justify the destruction of monuments are unacceptable.

There should be no place for such a phenomenon in the civilized world, regardless of the trends of the political situation,” the diplomats stressed.

Earlier it became known that Lithuania postponed the dismantling of the memorial to Soviet soldiers at the Antakalnis cemetery after the intervention of the UN.
