• Politics The Generalitat admits working "with total discretion" with the Government to modify the crime of sedition

In the middle of the debate on a possible reform of the crime of sedition, one of the ERC requests at the negotiating table with the Government of Pedro Sánchez, the former president of the Generalitat and leader of JxCat, Carles Puigdemont, made it clear that his party he does not want agreements with the state.

And that to attract media attention he did not hesitate to boast that he rejected "a good deal" offered by the socialists who came to see him in Belgium.

In this sense, Puigdemont assured that he has received visits from several "interlocutors", among them "people from the PSOE", to give him "expectations of good treatment, via reform of the Penal Code, and a pardon", although with conditions: "Always and when, of course, he agreed to appear before the Supreme Court. I'm sure Pedro Sánchez knows what I'm talking about."

The former Catalan president did not specify what these contacts consisted of, but he was encouraged to reveal them on the day that marks the fifth anniversary of his flight from Spain.

"I have not sought how I would spend fewer years in a Spanish prison, nor have I ever expected the benefits that apply to others. On this issue I have been explicit in public and in private before all the interlocutors who have addressed me to propose happy solutions "said the former Catalan president in reference to the government's pardons for independence leaders convicted of sedition by the Supreme Court.

In a clear reference to ERC, Puigdemont added that "I neither seek it nor want it, this personal benefit. Nor do I intend to ask for it 'on my knees', as a pro-independence politician dared to warn during the negotiations to resolve the Govern crisis" and added that He rejects any favor treatment since these attitudes show that "there was not much desire to solve anything".

For this reason, he did not hesitate to censor Esquerra's request to change the Penal Code since he does not understand "what is the benefit of reforming the crime of sedition for the resolution of the political conflict between Spain and Catalonia" and added that "I can understand the benefits for the Spanish State that I accept a resolution based on the reform of the penal code, but the benefits for the pro-independence 'procés' I don't see anywhere".

However, he wanted to remind PSOE and ERC that "I have never asked or authorized" them to discuss his personal situation at the dialogue table and stressed that some would be happy to see him testify before the Supreme Court and that "they would go out of their way to have him pardoned after three years of sentence.

Despite this, Puigdemont stressed that he will never make that "political resignation" even though he continues to put up with "all kinds of dirty campaigns, very serious threats, surveillance, espionage and family harassment" since he fled five years ago.

In his message, the former Catalan president did not hesitate to once again point to the State and its institutions as those responsible for the "repression" of sovereignty that is born from the "spirit of 'go for them!'

decreed by the Spanish king, with the participation of almost all the Spanish political parties and the vast majority of the media" both Spanish and "Catalan".

Despite this, he made it clear that he will continue to confront the State to prevent them from "liquidating Catalonia as a nation" and for this he will appeal to "non-politicized" courts such as the General Court of the European Union, which must decide on his appeal against the European Parliament for withdrawing him immunity on November 25.
