Warsaw is interested in participating in the NATO Nuclear Sharing program for the joint use of the alliance's nuclear weapons.

This was stated by the head of the International Policy Bureau of the Office of the President of the Republic, Yakub Kumoh, in an interview with the Polsat TV channel.

“Poland is interested in participating in the Nuclear Sharing program.

This was handed over to the American side," Kumoh said.

According to him, negotiations on this topic have already "taken place", they took place, "but in a kind of conceptual phase."

According to the Polsat TV channel, the Nuclear Sharing program implies "the provision of nuclear weapons or an agreement on general access to tactical nuclear weapons to NATO member states that do not possess them."

However, the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance explains that Nuclear Sharing involves mechanisms for the joint use of NATO nuclear weapons and guarantees "the distribution of benefits, obligations and risks associated with nuclear deterrence among all members of the alliance."

“These mechanisms include nuclear weapons, aircraft and infrastructure provided by a number of NATO countries to ensure collective security for all ... At their core, sharing mechanisms provide for the joint implementation of the alliance's nuclear deterrence mission and related political commitments, as well as participation in the adoption solutions.

We are not talking about the transfer of nuclear weapons, ”says the bloc’s newsletter.

At the same time, the report notes that the United States has deployed B-61 nuclear bombs "at certain facilities in Europe", which will be under the jurisdiction and control of the United States, in order to "guarantee the safety" of the allies.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda, in an interview with Gazeta Polska, called Warsaw's lack of nuclear weapons a problem.

“First of all, the problem is that we do not have nuclear weapons.

Nothing indicates that we, in the person of Poland, will have it at our disposal in the near future.

There is always a potential opportunity to participate in the Nuclear Sharing program.

We have spoken with American leaders about whether the United States is considering this possibility.

The topic is open, ”Duda said.

Then he added that, given the threats allegedly coming from Russia, Poland, it is quite possible to think about the "nuclear umbrella".

However, the US State Department considered it necessary to disassociate itself from the words of the Polish president, saying that Washington is not aware of any discussions about the possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland and does not intend to place them on the territory of NATO countries that became members of the alliance after 1997.

This was announced at a briefing by the deputy head of the press service of the department, Vedant Patel.

"Russophobia to the extreme"

As Oleg Nemensky, an expert at the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, noted, Warsaw believes that by possessing nuclear weapons or participating in the Nuclear Sharing program, it will be "easier for it to threaten Russia and behave even more aggressively towards it."

“Poland needs this in order to have fundamental grounds for threats against Russia and strengthen its anti-Russian policy,” the analyst said in an interview with RT.

“The fact that Poland has often announced its ambitions regarding the possession of nuclear weapons and participation in the Nuclear Sharing program lately speaks of Warsaw’s incredible desire to achieve the status of a priority US ally in the EU,” Nemensky said.

“This provision would give it, as Poland thinks, the opportunity to strengthen its position within the European Union and come to a qualitatively sharp leap in the development of trade and economic ties with the United States,” the expert noted.

A similar position is shared by Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies at IMEMO RAS.

According to him, Poland would like to become "the center of power in the EU."

“The Polish authorities believe that the deployment of nuclear weapons on their territory or Warsaw's participation in the Nuclear Sharing program will significantly increase their military authority and overall significance in Europe.

However, Washington is in no hurry to indulge Warsaw, although the Poles have been developing this idea for a long time.

During the time of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, Duda approached him with a proposal to deploy American troops on a regular basis, creating a US military base called Fort Trump, ”the expert recalled in a RT comment.

However, according to Olenchenko, the cool attitude towards such Polish ideas in Washington suggests that, regardless of the US administration, the White House is aware that in Warsaw "not everyone is very controlled."

“God forbid nuclear weapons appear on Polish territory, then peace in Europe will depend on how balanced the leadership of Poland is.

This probably does not inspire anyone, not even Washington, ”the analyst said.

As Olenchenko explained, the deployment of nuclear weapons on Polish territory could lead to "extremely tragic and unpredictable consequences."

“I hope there is an understanding in Washington and Brussels that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland significantly increases the risk of a nuclear clash between NATO and Russia.

But, apparently, Russophobia in its extreme degree frightens even the United States, ”the expert said.

Historical Tantrums

According to experts, in its desire to resist Russia, Warsaw is consistently increasing its anti-Russian rhetoric.

We are talking about the fact that, in addition to the desire to acquire nuclear weapons, the Polish authorities require Russia to compensate for the damage that the USSR allegedly inflicted on Poland during the Second World War.

This, in particular, was stated by the Polish President in an interview with Wprost magazine.

“Russia later (after Germany.

- RT

) joined this war, so I believe that we should also demand reparations from Russia ... I think we should do it.

I see no reason not to achieve this, ”Duda said.

After that, the Institute of National Memory of Poland made a statement that in 1945 the USSR allegedly did not bring liberation to this country.

The Kremlin called such statements monstrous.

In an interview with journalists, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov recalled that during the liberation of Polish territory, many citizens of the Soviet republics died.

"It's a lie!

The lie is monstrous, because a lot of citizens of the Soviet Union then died, citizens of the Russian Federation (RSFSR. -

RT

), citizens of other republics that were then part of the Soviet Union, died liberating Poland, ”he stressed.

Recall that Poland was cleared of Nazi invaders after the bloody battles of 1944-1945.

The Soviet troops and Polish formations achieved the liberation of Warsaw in mid-January 1945.

In the battles for Poland, the Red Army suffered colossal losses - 600 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers were killed.

As Oleg Nemensky noted, Warsaw's position does not hold water and has "strong legal shortcomings."

“Poland did not declare war on the Soviet Union, and the USSR did not declare war on Poland.

In addition, there are absurdities in the Polish version that look, frankly, ridiculous.

For example, until 1953 the Soviet Union received reparations from its German occupation zone, including from those territories that it then transferred as a gesture of goodwill to the Polish state.

And Poland now claims that the USSR allegedly plundered these territories, ”the expert noted.

Nemensky stressed that Warsaw's demands "have no prospects."

In his opinion, Poland is trying to use any pretexts and methods to somehow oppose Russia.

“Warsaw is pursuing an extremely radical anti-Russian policy.

Since the now ruling Law and Justice party came to power, Poland has been claiming to be the most anti-Russian state in the world, ”the analyst concluded.
