The National Center of Meteorology, through its Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Sciences, carried out the second phase of innovative research experiments to study the possibility of cumulus rain clouds formation by stimulating vertical winds, which was implemented in Jebel Jais in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah by a research team led by a researcher at the Research Center. Breaking up the cold in Russia, the third cycle grantee of the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, Dr. Ali Abshaev.

The center explained that the field experiments included monitoring the activities of local clouds and precipitation in the eastern regions of the UAE during the winter and comparing their results with the experiments of last spring, which lasted from February 17 to March 26, 2021, pointing out that the research project aims to study the possibility of stimulating Vertical convection streams by a jet engine equipped with advanced scientific instrumentation lead to the formation of cumulus rain clouds.

According to the center, during the period from December 24, 2021 to January 5, 2022, the research team conducted about 12 research experiments in different weather conditions, which included three experiments in a clear sky, and four experiments with the presence of pregnancy and stratigraphic clouds above or a short distance from the experiment site, in addition to three Experiments with direct intervention in the pull of the load, and two experiments with the intervention in stratified clouds, noting that these experiments pave the way for a broader technical and economic study in the future, using more powerful jet engines to enhance the capabilities of the system and increase its effectiveness.

The Director General of the National Center of Meteorology said.

President of the Asian Meteorological Federation, Dr. Abdullah Al-Mandoos: “Within the framework of our support for the national innovation strategy in the UAE, the National Center of Meteorology continues efforts of scientific and technical innovation in the field of rain enhancement research to achieve the aspirations of our wise leadership to ensure water security for the UAE and other countries around the world. "

He explained that through the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, the National Center of Meteorology works closely with grantees of the program and supports their pioneering research projects to find sustainable solutions to the risks of water scarcity, especially for the communities most vulnerable to the consequences of this crisis, noting that these efforts are aimed at developing local and global capabilities in this regard. The important research field, which will enable us to secure our needs of sustainable water resources and advance social and economic development.

For her part, Director of the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, Alia Al Mazrouei, said: "The outputs of this project will enhance our understanding of the mechanism of cloud formation and precipitation in the region, as the data collected by this study on the atmosphere have openly answered many important questions about the factors contributing to rain enhancement. Cloud formation, which will enable scientists to identify the ideal conditions for carrying out rain seeding operations in the future, and we look forward to benefiting from the results of the campaign in developing new, more effective and less costly methods of cloud seeding, in order to increase precipitation rates and enhance our fresh water resources.”
