More than three-quarters of North Korea's missile tests since 1984 have been deemed successful, data showed yesterday, a clear sign of progress in Pyongyang's relentless pursuit of advanced weapons systems.

The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, based in the United States, released data on North Korea's tests of missiles capable of delivering a payload of at least 500 kilograms over a distance of at least 300 kilometers, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Of the 204 missiles North Korea has tested since 1984, 156 have been classified as successful, 32 as failed, and the remainder as "unknown," according to institute data posted on the Nuclear Threat Initiative website.

This number translates to a success rate of 76% during this period.

Pyongyang recently heightened regional tensions with a series of missile tests, including those that included a medium-range ballistic missile and a long-range cruise missile earlier this month, according to Yonhap.
