The ASEAN-Association of Southeast Asian Nations held an extraordinary foreign ministers' meeting to discuss Myanmar, and agreed that it was necessary to set a deadline for agreements with ASEAN, such as the cessation of violence, and demand the Myanmar military to implement them.

An extraordinary ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on the 27th to discuss the situation in member country Myanmar.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and others, there was no attendance from Myanmar, the country concerned.

Since the coup d'état, the military, which holds real power in Myanmar, and ASEAN last year reached an agreement on five items, including an immediate cessation of violence. Approximately 50 people have died, and the implementation of the agreement is far from being fulfilled.

The foreign ministers' meeting was closed to the public and the details were not disclosed, but Cambodia, the chair of the meeting, said in a statement that member countries should ask the Myanmar military to implement the agreement within a deadline. I made it clear that I agreed on recognition.

At a press conference, Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno expressed strong concern over the current situation, saying, "Several member countries did not hide their frustration at the lack of progress in implementing the agreement. The situation is deteriorating."

The response to the Myanmar military is expected to be discussed again at the ASEAN summit meeting to be held in November, and the focus will be on whether effective measures can be worked out in the future.

On the other hand, Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 27th, saying, "Setting a deadline to implement the agreement will create a more negative situation."
