Solar energy is in fashion.

But it is not a passing fad.

For the second consecutive year, our country is one of the European countries with the greatest weight in solar generation

.

In 2021, it was the second that generated the most electrical energy from the wind and the sun, although the latter is ahead, according to Redeia.

And, in 2022, the trend continues.

In 2020, the incorporation of renewable energies increased at the fastest rate in the last two decades and, this year, it is expected to exceed 300GW/year, with solar energy contributing to this growth by 60%.

Carbon neutrality by 2050 is the path to a sustainable future for all.

And it is a goal that some, like

EDP

, whose commitment is

to produce electricity solely with water, sun and wind already in 2030

, take very seriously.

Only in this way, assuming important challenges by all parties, will it be possible to

accelerate the energy transition

.

Investing in

producing and consuming our own solar energy

is also a great accelerator of the transition, favoring the increase in

energy independence

.

To complete the

decarbonization

process in 2050, 50% of energy consumption will have to be electric and, at the same time, 90% of the electricity produced will have to come from renewable sources.

In all this,

solar energy assumes a leading role

because, to achieve this goal, it is essential that 600 GW of photovoltaic energy be incorporated during the current decade, the equivalent of installing the largest existing solar park every day.

Sustainability, savings and competitiveness thanks to solar energy

Solar energy has many advantages, among them, that it is

inexhaustible

.

But there are many more, which companies are beginning to discover little by little.

Solar energy is

sustainable

and is also synonymous with

savings and competitiveness

.

As a curious fact, during its useful life, a solar installation generates 30 times more energy than the electricity needed to manufacture it.

The

autonomy

to manage their own energy production and consumption protects

companies and families

, who are

less exposed to electricity prices in the market

.

This autonomy and independence from the network allows companies in Spain to achieve savings of between 20% and 40% and families up to 50%, according to EDP data.

And it's a

competitive investment

, with payback in just four to six years.

The return of this type of solutions is greater, moreover, if we talk about

solar with battery

.

These allow customers to make a much smarter management of their system.

Thus, installing batteries means

reducing the return on investment even further, maximizing savings and greater independence from the electricity grid

.

Invest in Solar

Now that solar energy is no longer the niche technology that it was, companies that are able to invest in and take advantage of this form of energy production will accelerate their

energy transition

and make the most of

controlling the volatility of prices

, thanks to less dependence on the network.

Investing in solar is today an obvious investment

.

In fact, this is the title of one of the conferences at the

EDP Business Summit 2022

, an event that is an opportunity to reflect on the problems and goals of a more sustainable future and that will include the participation of

Miguel Fonseca, commercial advisor of EDP

, who points out that "self-consumption and its contribution to energy savings and sustainability are key for companies to be more competitive. EDP seeks flexible business models that adapt to the needs of customers and offers solar solutions, without investment , with guaranteed savings and a team of experts at your disposal".

EDP

offers its customers the possibility of

generating, consuming and saving energy

thanks to its own

photovoltaic solar installation

, adapted to their needs.

To do this, it proposes

two business models

:

total initial investment

paid in cash or in installments, or opt for the

'as a service'

model

.

In the

'as a service'

model , EDP assumes 100% of the initial investment and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant for up to 15 years.

This solution eliminates risk for the client, who benefits from net cost savings from the first month and the entire management of the solar installation will be insured by the company.

Customers who joined EDP solar energy in 2021 around the world produced enough to avoid the emission of 170,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to the positive contribution to the planet made by more than 7,000 trees

One of the most notable

EDP success stories

in our country is that of

Exide

, whose photovoltaic plant is larger than two football fields.

In this way, it has stopped emitting 285 tons of CO2 per year.

In Asturias, thanks to photovoltaics for self-consumption,

masymas

supermarkets have achieved annual savings estimated at 25% and have avoided emitting 200 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to planting 15,000 trees.

And in Tudela, Navarra, for its part,

Icer Breakers

, with the same model and with an online consumption monitoring system, has saved 19% based on the previous invoice and has reduced its annual emissions by 600 tons of CO2, which which would mean planting 45,000 trees.

In this sense, in an increasingly global world,

EDP

shares this ambition.

The company has grown significantly in this area, in which it has contracted

1.4 GWac of solar distributed generation in 12 markets, on 3 continents

.

EDP Business Summit 2022

Here comes the sun

is the motto on which the

EDP Business Summit

revolves this year , which will take place on

October 27

in Lisbon, although it will be broadcast globally and, therefore, broadcast in Spain with simultaneous translation in Spanish.

This is the international event aimed at the B2B segment that addresses the most relevant issues of the energy transition.

It will feature renowned companies in the sector and top speakers.

What are the best practices in sustainability and energy transition?

And the possible solutions?

A series of inspiring discussions and lectures will present solar energy in today's context and seek to answer these questions.
