• Direct War Ukraine - Russia, last minute

Russia has appointed a new ambassador to Spain in a

change in its diplomatic policy

that has had the approval of the Government, since the new post was

approved last Tuesday

by the Council of Ministers.

The news, advanced by Antena3 and confirmed by EL MUNDO, is "a way of keeping diplomatic flows open", sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have explained.

The decision to keep Russian embassies open has been the trend of almost all countries despite the diplomatic sanctions to which the invader of Ukraine has been subjected.

Although the name of the new ambassador has not been disclosed, it is known that he is

a worker

who has already been in the consulates of Madrid and Barcelona, close to Vladimir Putin and with knowledge of Spain.

No further data is disclosed and from Foreign Affairs they refer to the Russian Embassy to know more details.

The new ambassador will replace Yuri Korchagin, who a few months ago denied that Russia was going to invade Ukraine, at the beginning of the war he said that several images were

fake news

and on October 3 he was called to chapter by the Spanish Government as a form of protest after the annexation by Russia of Ukrainian territories.

Because despite keeping this diplomatic channel open, the Government has repeatedly condemned the war and has shown its support for Ukraine.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs assured in his last interview in EL MUNDO that "Putin's veiled threats to a possible use of nuclear weapons are not going to intimidate us in supporting Ukraine to guarantee its sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The new Ambassador will have to present his credentials to Felipe VI in a solemn ceremony.

It will be a meeting at the Royal Palace, like that of the rest of the Ambassadors, in which Don Felipe will coincide with a president appointed by Putin for the first time since the war began.
