"The US Navy and Army launched a missile from a launch pad on the coast of Virginia to conduct about a dozen experiments with hypersonic weapons and help develop a new class of weapons," Reuters said, citing the United States Department of Defense.

As part of the tests, the military evaluated the operation of navigation equipment and the communication component of weapons, as well as some "advanced materials" that are resistant to heat in a "realistic hypersonic environment."

In July, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced another successful test of a hypersonic weapon.

The tested carrier was created by Raytheon Technologies.

Prior to this, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said that the United States is working on defenses against hypersonic weapons.
