A 17-year-old teenager, Loïc, found himself stuck a hundred meters above the ground in the Chartreuse massif, near Grenoble in Isère, where he was trying to reach friends.

The cyclist followed a route suggested by the GPS of his phone before getting lost and being rescued.

Europe 1 looks back on this incredible story.

Loïc had a narrow escape in Isère.

This 17-year-old teenager got a real scare in the Chartreuse massif above Grenoble, where he was trying to join friends at a party.

On his bike, he somewhat blindly follows his phone's GPS, which takes him along a path that has been closed since last year due to a landslide.

The path is very steep, so he abandons his mountain bike and continues on foot.

Night falls, the young man takes a via ferrata, but his progress is so difficult that he suddenly finds himself unable to move forward.

He finds himself stuck on the side of the cliff clinging to a few tufts of grass under his feet, 100-150 meters away.

Almost ten hours suspended in the void

Loïc still manages to call for help a little before midnight, but night searches are complicated.

"We heard it whistle at times, but with the sound of the water from the waterfall, it was very difficult to distinguish where these whistles came from", says Brigadier Nicolas Hersant, of the CRS-Alpes at the microphone. Europe 1.

The brigadier continues his story: "We couldn't find him because we thought he was going to be in the blocked via ferrata, but he continued without anything, without any protection in the grass clippings. Never we would not have thought that he had passed to higher floors compared to our position. It is a miracle that he did not slip, otherwise it would have been a fatal fall", he notes.

The young man is indeed a miracle because he spent the whole night, nearly 10 hours, on the side of a cliff, before being spotted by the Civil Security helicopter and rescued safe and sound.
