It was a passerby who discovered the injured person late on Tuesday evening and alerted the police and ambulance.
The police suspect that the person has been the victim of a serious crime.
A larger area around the cycle path is cordoned off and the police have begun investigative measures such as door knocking and technical examination.
Shortly before 01:00, there was no one detained in the case, which at the time had not yet received a criminal classification.
Earlier in the evening, the police were alerted to a fight in central Sandviken.
