Georgia Meloni distances herself from 'fascism'

Yesterday, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni affirmed that Italy is "a whole part of Europe and the Western world," denying any "sympathy" or "rapprochement" with fascism, in her public policy speech to Parliament, which she delivered exactly a month after her right-wing party's historic victory in legislative elections.

Meloni, who chairs the Eurosceptic Fratelli d'Italia party, said Italy's approach is not to "repress and torpedo European integration," but to make the group's machine work better.

She added that Italy was "a whole part of Europe and the Western world."
