Amidst unprecedented security measures, tens of thousands of Sudanese rallied in various cities of the country yesterday, demanding civilian rule, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the measures taken by Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on October 25, 2021.

The protests witnessed a large participation of men, women and youth;

Despite the heavy firing of tear gas and the early closure of the main bridges linking the three cities of the capital, Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum North.

The protesters raised slogans calling for the return of the soldiers to their barracks, the formation of a full civilian authority, and justice for the deaths of the protests that have been going on for nearly a year, who have so far numbered 121.

While popular protests continue;

Some Sudanese political forces say that they are seeking to find a solution to the crisis in cooperation with the tripartite mechanism made up of the United Nations, the African Union and the IGAD Group, in addition to actors in the international community who are pressing strongly to hand over power to civilians.

In the same context;

The United States, European Union countries, Japan and South Korea said in a joint statement issued the day before yesterday that the draft transitional constitution prepared by the Sudanese Bar Association in September represents a credible and comprehensive framework for resolving the current crisis.

The draft provides for the establishment of a civilian state that follows the federal system of government and distances the military institution from political action and governance, and the integration of military forces into a single professional army.
