It is the Minister's Remuneration Committee that decides who shall be entitled to compensation.

The severance pay corresponds to the amount that the minister received in remuneration before the resignation and for the longest period of twelve months, according to the main rule.

If the person concerned has other income, it is deducted from the severance pay, for example if you receive a fee as a member of the Riksdag.

11 of the 23 ministers have no such place to fall back on, which means they may be entitled to 145,000 kroner a month in severance pay, corresponding to their previous remuneration as a minister.

However, those who have reached the age of 65 can only receive severance pay for six months, and those who have been ministers for a limited time are also not entitled to compensation for a full year.

- It is more common for ex-ministers to request compensation than for them to refuse, says Björn Länsisyrjä, secretary of the Cabinet Remuneration Committee, to Expressen.
