Budget 2023: Elisabeth Borne's government escapes censorship
The motion of censure of the Nupes supported by the RN collected 239 votes out of the 289 necessary.

The National Assembly rejected this Monday two motions of censure on the 2023 budget, despite the surprise announcement of support from the National Rally for the text of the left.
The two votes are equivalent to adoption at first reading of the revenue section of the 2023 budget.

The National Rally made a political coup by supporting the left-wing Nupes motion, which was defeated by 50 votes, with 239 votes out of the 289 needed.
Three environmentalists did not take part in the ballot, including Jérémie Iordanoff, who said he refused "
to mix his voice
" with those of the far right.
In the process, the Assembly largely rejected the motion carried by the RN supported by the deputies of Marine Le Pen, the non-registered Nicolas Dupont-Aignan and only one LFI deputy, Jean-Philippe Nilor.
These motions responded to Article 49-3 of the Constitution, activated twice on Wednesday and Thursday by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to pass without a vote the revenue parts of the Social Security finance and financing bill.
The opposition criticizes the government for "
sweeping
" amendments voted by the Assembly, in particular the increase in the taxation of "
superdividends
", proposed by the MoDem, a member of the majority.
The macronists, on the contrary, send them the responsibility for the "
blocking
".

Simplicity and excess
”
In the hemicycle, the head of government attacked the "
excesses
" of the opposition.
Elisabeth Borne criticized the left-wing coalition (LFI, PS, EELV, PCF) for “
untruths
”, judging that “
insubordination won the game
”, in an “
alternative country where Jean-Luc Mélenchon
” would have “
won
the presidential election.
The head of government then pointed to the “
simplism and excess
” of the National Rally, whose “
ideological fundamentals have not changed
”.

You are aiming for disorder and discord at the cost of an unnatural alliance with Nupes
", launched Elisabeth Borne, when Marine Le Pen had just announced her support for the Nupes motion, in the face, according to her, of "
the arrogance
" of the executive.
At "
RN, we are not afraid of threats of dissolution
", launched the president of the far-right group in an allusion to a threat brandished by Emmanuel Macron.
RN like Nupes described an atmosphere of "
end of reign
" with the use of 49.3, which allows part of the State and Social Security budgets to be passed without a vote.
Speaker of the left-wing coalition, the president of the environmental group Cyrielle Chatelain accused the executive of "
muzzling
" the Assembly.
She criticized the Prime Minister for her
climate “
inaction ”.

The deputies were to examine in the evening another Nupes motion presented by the socialist Jérôme Guedj on the financing of Social Security.
Since the beginning of the Fifth Republic, this is the first time that three motions of censure have been examined on the same day.
As for the first two, it has a priori no chance of winning a majority.
Because the right is hostile to it.
A single motion of censure was adopted under the Fifth Republic, in 1962, bringing down the government of Georges Pompidou.
