The Tigray People's Liberation Front announced the arrival of its delegation to South Africa, to participate in peace talks with the Ethiopian government led by the African Union.

"The delegation of the Tigray government has arrived in South Africa to participate in the peace talks led by the African Union," the Front's spokesman, Canada Gebrehiot, said in a tweet on Sunday evening.

He added that the delegation's objectives in the talks were to "press for an immediate cessation of hostilities", to allow unrestricted humanitarian access, and to "withdraw the Eritrean forces" from the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia.

Gebrehiot also stressed that "there can be no military solution" in the country.

Earlier, the Ethiopian government agreed to participate in the peace talks, but it has not yet announced the arrival of its delegation to South Africa.

It is scheduled to start today peace talks between the Ethiopian government and the Popular Front, which was called by the African Union earlier this October.

Since November 4, 2021, clashes have been renewed in the Tigray region between the Federal Army and the Tigray People's Liberation Front with the aim of imposing control over the region.
