After the “high school” dreams, the “four female students”: Aisha Sultan Al-Suwaidi, Moza Tahawara, Fatima Al-Madani and Laila Al-Muhairi had a date with a unique experience, an experience that changed the course of their lives, and paved the way towards achieving ambitions that were just dreams yesterday. They chose the decision to be sent to study in the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, which opened its arms since the sixties of the last century, and before the establishment of the United Arab Emirates Federation to receive student scholarships from the people of the country to study there, and it was for them the incubator and supporter.

The four scholarship students found the opportunity of a lifetime, which was not limited to learning and knowledge, which enabled them to later contribute to building the medical sector in the country, which is witnessing a great development today, but rather exceeded it to include various aspects, which made them mature and responsible personalities, aware of The value of what you have, and the goodness of all, as confirmed by the "four students" to "Emirates Today", who interviewed them on the occasion of the celebration of "Egypt and the Emirates are One Heart", expressing their great gratitude for the leadership that provided them with this opportunity that made a big difference in their lives, and engraved their names on The list of the first doctors in our young country .. the Emirates.

Accomplishments

Periodontist Dr. Aisha Sultan Al-Suwaidi, who joined the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1976, said, “Thanks to (the golden opportunity), I became the first female dentist in the country, and the first Muslim president of the Asian Dental Federation, and these achievements would not have been achieved without my joining.” The scholarship in sisterly Egypt.

She added, "The scholarship experience was not difficult for me, especially since I used to visit Egypt from a young age. I visited Cairo Al-Muizz, Al-Hussein neighborhood, Al-Sayeda Zainab Mosque and Khan Al-Khalili... and other areas of old Cairo engraved in memory."

As for orthodontic consultant Dr. Moza Obeid Tahawara, who was sent to Cairo University in 1976 to study dentistry, she said: “Our batch was the largest, with 13 female doctors graduating, who succeeded in building the medical sector in the country, both in terms of laying the basic rules for their medical specialties. that they completed later, or contribute to strengthening the medical services provided.”

She added about the experience, which she refused to describe as “alienation”: “It was wonderful with distinction, we did not feel alienated because we felt the clear support of the state embassy in Egypt, the Emirates Student Club, as well as from the Egyptians who surrounded us with their love and care .. I still yearn for them and for them. Beloved Egypt.

After the study experience in Cairo, Dr. Moza went to the capital of fog “London” to complete her higher studies, and she graduated with three degrees: “Master’s in Pediatric Dentistry” from the University of London 1987, and “Master’s in Orthodontics” 1990, and the British Royal Fellowship Diploma in Orthodontics 1990. She established the Department of Pediatric dental treatment in the Department of Health and Medical Services (currently the Health Authority), as well as the Orthodontics Department, and therefore it is the first orthodontist in the country.

She also headed the Orthodontic Doctors Exam Assessment Division in Dubai.

She is also the representative of the International Orthodontic Organization in the UAE, for establishing the Emirates Orthodontic Association, and she is still practicing her work in the private sector after 28 years of government work.

“An experience that gave us a lot.” With these words, the dermatologist, Dr. Fatima Ahmed Al-Madani, sums up the story of the scholarship and her joining the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1976, adding: “All gratitude to the wise leadership that provided us with scholarship to sister Egypt, which was not only available to us. The opportunity for academic education, but rather played a prominent role in giving us many life lessons that refined our personalities, enhanced our capabilities, and developed our skills.”

Upon her return to the country, Dr. Fatima began her work in the Department of Health and Medical Services (currently the Health Authority), and then joined Cardiff University in the United Kingdom to study specialization, and practiced medical work in the government sector, and also joined the private sector, in which she completes her career after That I retired in 2016.

And she continued: “A very pleasant experience that we had in sisterly Egypt, whose people opened their hearts to us, and we did not feel alienation among them at all, because of the spaciousness, generosity and great kindness we experienced. We gathered.”

Memorable days

While the neonatal consultant, Dr. Laila Matar Al-Muhairi, who was sent on a scholarship in 1975 to study medicine at Ain Shams University in Egypt: “It was this experience that paved the way for me to specialize later in (premature babies), to give me the opportunity after God, the Almighty, in Preserving the lives of a group of premature babies, who are now young men and women, are contacted by their parents, and for me this is the greatest achievement a person can achieve.”

Dr. Laila, who later studied in Sweden, added, “For me, the experience of Sweden was completely different. I went to it after I became a mature, responsible young woman, self-reliant, and confident in her abilities. This is the result of my first scholarship experience in Cairo, which taught me a lot.

The unforgettable days we spent in sisterly Egypt engraved in our minds are the most beautiful and wonderful memories, foremost of which is the visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, to Cairo and his meeting with his sons on scholarship, and the trips of the Emirates Students Club, which served as a meeting point. The most prominent, and a bridge to communicate with scholarship students from the Gulf and other Arab countries, as well as the visit of the (then) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi.
