On October 6, US President Joe Biden announced that new sanctions will be imposed on Iranian authorities responsible for recent violence against protesters in the country, according to Reuters.

Several European countries, France, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic, followed the US in trying to put further pressure on the regime in Iran.

The countries proposed sanctions aimed at those responsible for the violence against the peaceful demonstrators protesting against the country's morality police.

During the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg, on October 17, the EU decided to impose sanctions on Iran's morality police and the country's information minister, reports AFP.

The sanctions consist of, among other things, an entry ban to the EU and the freezing of any financial assets within the EU.

The sanctions are primarily aimed at around 15 people and organizations that can be linked to the violence.

Canada has imposed three sanctions packages against Iran for human rights violations.

The most recent, which came on October 19, target six people and four groups.

Since before, the country has imposed sanctions against at least 17 people and several groups, according to Reuters.

The next day, on October 20, Britain imposed sanctions on three senior Iranian military personnel as well as an arms company as punishment for Iran's involvement in Russia's war in Ukraine, according to several media outlets.

The company is said to manufacture the drones that Russia has used against targets in Ukraine recently.

The EU has already preliminarily decided to impose sanctions on eight people and actors in Iran following information that Russia is using Iranian-made drones in Ukraine, reports Reuters.

But the EU now says it sees Iran as more directly involved in the war, beyond the drones it has sold to Russia.

The EU has therefore drawn up a new sanctions package linked to the war in Ukraine.

A decision on this is expected to come during Friday.
