The "Istanbul Declaration" of the Conference of Information Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation stressed the need to combat Islamophobia in all its manifestations, expressing the appreciation of the participating countries to the government and people of Turkey for hosting the conference.

The declaration, which was published by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on its website, was issued at the conclusion of the activities of the twelfth session of the conference, which was hosted in Istanbul on Friday and Saturday, under the title "Combating disinformation and the phenomenon of Islamophobia."

The declaration stressed the need to combat Islamophobia and Islamophobia in all its manifestations by effectively demonstrating the true image of the tolerant religion of Islam, and benefiting from new and emerging platforms and modern technical means.

He stressed the importance of cooperation among member states in developing the mechanisms necessary to combat disinformation and face other related challenges in the post-truth era, and to formulate short, medium and long-term strategic plans in the comprehensive battle against disinformation.

The declaration stressed the importance of the decisive role of the media in Islamic countries in exposing and exposing the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians, calling for shedding light on the legitimate cause of the Palestinian people, to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

It also called on the media in Member States to raise global awareness of the deliberate destruction and desecration of Islamic cultural and religious heritage in non-Muslim countries, particularly in areas where indigenous Muslim communities have been subjected to ethnic cleansing.

Earlier on Saturday, Turkey assumed the presidency of the twelfth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Information Ministers Conference from Saudi Arabia, during the session held in Istanbul.

For his part, Head of the Communication Department in the Turkish Presidency, Fahrettin Altun, called on Islamic countries to wage an effective and multi-dimensional struggle against the "colonial system" formed in the international arena at the level of media and information.

Altoun stressed - during a press conference held after the twelfth session of the Conference of Information Ministers - that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has performed very important functions in order to enhance cooperation and solidarity among member states, and to protect and defend the rights and interests of the Islamic world.

Altoun said that misinformation and Islamophobia are among the strategies used by the colonial regime in the context of media on the international scene, so we must wage an effective and multi-dimensional struggle in an atmosphere of solidarity against this colonial regime.

"For this reason, we adopted a very important declaration in our conference today. This declaration, which we called the Istanbul Declaration, has a purposeful and important content in this period in which we are fighting various challenges related to combating disinformation and anti-Islam."

Altun stressed the need for short, medium and long-term strategies in the war on media misinformation, noting that the Istanbul Declaration reaffirmed commitment to the Palestinian cause, indicating that a joint decision was reached to support the Palestinian News and Media Agency.

He noted that the Istanbul Declaration reaffirmed the Islamic world's condemnation of violence, extremism, radicalism and all forms of terrorism.
