It concerns eight people aged 80 to 90 living in Nacka, Sollentuna and Botkyrka who were exposed during the evening.

These are both completed frauds and attempts.

On their website, the police write that the course of events of the crimes were similar, but differ at the level of detail.

Common to all cases is that the fraudster called from an "emergency center" and said that it should prevent the person from being exposed to crime by taking care of their valuables.

The fraudsters, who were both men and women, were also dressed in uniform-like clothes when they arrived at the scene.

According to Daniel Wikdahl, spokesperson for the Stockholm police, this type of fraud is not unusual, but eight in one evening stand out.

- It feels like there were an unusual number of people tonight and that they have such a similar approach in all these cases, that they pretend to be police officers, or in any case security guards, he says.

Difficult to investigate crimes

Daniel Wikdahl is careful to point out that the police do not work in this way.

Taking care of private individuals' gold and jewelery is not part of the duties.

- We don't come to people's homes and take care of their valuables, that never happens, he says.

If you suspect fraud attempts like these, it is important to call 112 immediately.

- Then it is an ongoing crime.

You should not stand in line for 114 14, but it is important that we get there right away.

The times we succeed in arresting and prosecuting someone for these crimes are when victims or relatives have reacted quickly and called 112, says Daniel Wikdahl.

The police write that it is currently not possible to estimate the total value of what was stolen.

There is also no suspected perpetrator.
