In his statement, Biden congratulated Meloni on her appointment and reminded her that Italy is an important NATO ally.

“I look forward to continuing our support for Ukraine, holding Russia accountable for its aggression, ensuring respect for human rights and democratic values, and ensuring sustainable economic growth,” the US President said in a statement.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the Italy Forward party, said earlier that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could stop the fighting in Ukraine if he announced that Kyiv had stopped attacks.

George Meloni, in turn, promised Zelensky to continue to provide assistance and support to Ukraine.
