Yesterday, Saturday, a Palestinian youth was killed by the Israeli occupation forces' bullets in Qalqilya in the northern West Bank. On the other hand, 3 Israeli soldiers were wounded, described as lightly, during confrontations with Palestinians in the Shuafat camp, east of occupied Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said - in a statement - that the young man, Rabbi Arafa Rabi, 32, died of critical wounds, after being shot in the head by the occupation soldiers.

She explained that the young man was wounded at Checkpoint 109 near the village of Al-Nabi Elias, southeast of Qalqilya.

The Israeli military said its forces were trying to seize a car after its occupants illegally crossed into Israel, but the car got away and hit a soldier, after which the soldiers fired at the car.

In turn, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned - in a press statement obtained by Anadolu Agency - the heinous field execution crime committed by the occupation forces against Rabi at one of the occupation checkpoints in Qalqilya.

The Foreign Ministry considered that Rabi's martyrdom is part of a series of daily crimes committed by the occupation forces against Palestinian citizens, with political instructions that made it easier for the soldiers to kill any Palestinian without any reason.

The Palestinian Ministry held the Israeli government fully and directly responsible for these crimes and their consequences and repercussions on the conflict arena.

Clashes in Jerusalem

In occupied Jerusalem, the occupation police said that they shot and "unified" a Palestinian who stabbed and seriously wounded an Israeli settler near the French Hill in Jerusalem.

Local sources said that the perpetrator of the attack was Muhammad Rajab Abu Qtaish, 16, from Dahiyat al-Salam, northeast of the city.

Al-Jazeera correspondent said that the occupation forces arrested the father of the stabbing attacker in Jerusalem, after raiding his house east of the city.

A video clip spread on social media showed the suspected attacker lying injured in a playground where children were playing soccer, while an armed policeman stood by him.

In turn, the Israeli Army Radio reported that 3 Israeli soldiers were wounded, which it described as light, during clashes with Palestinians in the Shuafat camp, east of Jerusalem.

Thousands of detainees

For its part, the Palestinian Prisoners Club said - yesterday, Saturday - that the number of cases of arrests of Palestinians by the Israeli army has exceeded 5,300 since the beginning of this year, referring to the overcrowding in Israeli prisons.

The club (non-governmental) stated - in a statement - that more than 5,300 arrests have been recorded since the beginning of this year, noting that this statistic includes detainees who have been released.

According to the data of institutions specialized in the affairs of prisoners, the number of those held in Israeli prisons until the end of last September reached 4,700, including 30 female prisoners and about 190 minors.

The Prisoner's Club statement added that the Israeli authorities are holding more than 80 prisoners in each section of the Israeli detention centers, which began to be crowded with Palestinian detainees, who may stay more than 70 days after the end of the investigation due to overcrowding.

He stressed that the prisoners' suffering is compounded by the increase in the number of detainees and the overcrowding in detention centers and crossings (waiting stations before transferring to prisons).

He stressed that detention centers and crossings are considered one of the worst stations that detainees face, as well as prisoners when they are transferred from one prison to another, or for treatment or to the courts.

The Prisoner's Club cited Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, in the central West Bank, and Megiddo Prison, in northern Israel, where most of the new detainees are transferred, he said.

He added that each section of the two sections of the new detainees in Ofer prison accommodates 72 prisoners, but the number of detainees has recently reached more than 80 prisoners in each section.

The club said that this suffering is frequent, and every time the occupation escalates arrests, the prisoners face double suffering, and they have the burden of providing them with basic needs, instead of the prison administration providing them.

He pointed out that some prisoners stay 70 days or more in the interrogation centers, despite the completion of the interrogation, due to overcrowding in the detention centers.

According to the Prisoner Club, the suffering will escalate if the arrests continue with their current approach.
