• Protocol The video of the kidnapper of the Basurto newborn, key in the resolution of the case

  • Events Arrested the woman who kidnapped a newborn in Basurto Hospital and left him on a doormat

M.

was finalizing the purchase of a baby stroller.

It was the last delusion of the spiral in which she was trapped by the psychological disorder that she suffered from her and that pushed her to kidnap a newborn,

Aimar

, in the

Basurto

hospital in Bilbao on Wednesday .

Weeks ago, she had announced to her friends that she was pregnant and that she would give birth on October 19.

After her abduction, the 24-year-old woman spent the whole night in the street taking many photos with the baby and uploading them to her social networks, as sources of the investigation specify to this newspaper.

“It has already arrived”, “it has already been born”, M. wrote on the internet together with the snapshots with Aimar in different parts of Bilbao, the same sources detail.

The Ertzaintza blocked all her social networks as soon as she was arrested.

The nightmare of the child's parents, a resident of

Durango

, ended at 8:30 a.m. yesterday, when a neighbor from

Santutxu (Bilbao)

heard her doorbell ring and found Aimar on the doormat of her house wrapped in a small blanket and without a diaper.

The baby is fine and is resting with his parents.

The longest night for Aimar's parents and for the Ertzaintza began at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when M. entered the Basurto Hospital dressed as a health worker from the center.

Through the professionals' access, she reached the maternity ward and entered several rooms.

At 10:30 p.m., the police alarm was activated.

The security cameras of the hospital center captured her as she left carrying the child in her left arm.

The street camera system around the hospital allowed her to be followed until she reached the Salve bridge.

In the vicinity of

the Guggenheim Museum

, M. entered a pharmacy where he bought a bottle and powdered milk.

There she lost track of him, although police sources believe that she went to a friend's house.

From there, she repeatedly photographed herself with the little one.

And he was uploading those images to social networks announcing the birth of a baby that was not his.

The kidnapper was euphoric, specify the same sources consulted.

The investigators suspect that at dawn he could have been aware of what he had done and in his repentance he left Aimar at the door of a house.

He entered a portal and chose a house.

She rang the bell and went downstairs.

The owner looked through the peephole, didn't see anyone but opened the door and found Aimar.

She was already on notice because she had news of the kidnapping of the newborn.

It was then that she alerted the Ertzaintza.

Meanwhile, M. returned to her neighborhood of

Zorrotza

but by then, the agents had already identified her, as explained by the Minister of the Interior,

Josu Erkoreka

, at 09:15.

Shortly after, at 10:30 am, she was detained in a plaza sitting on a bench and crying with a friend of hers.

Alerted by a call from a neighbor, five Basque police patrols arrested M. and her friend.

Thus ended an odyssey that had begun weeks ago with the announcement that she was expecting a child.

"Everything is going very well, the pregnancy is going very well," M. commented to her surroundings, as revealed by the same sources consulted by this newspaper.

She had even already bought baby clothes.

She said that she had already ordered the cart and that the child would come into the world on October 19, just the day he kidnapped Aimar.

Previous attempted abductions

On Wednesday night, he tried to take other children from the hospital but was unsuccessful, the same sources say.

This last extreme is that the

ertzainas

are investigating since, for the moment, the circumstances in which these attempted abductions occurred in the hospital have not transpired.

M. entered the room wearing white pants and a jacket.

He had a bag in his hand.

Nobody suspected.

She headed straight for the maternity ward and made a pretense of taking at least two children before she made it to Aimar.

When she entered the newborn's room, she told her mother that she was taking him for tests.

Specifically, she alluded to the heel exam.

With that same excuse, she appeared in the other rooms, as the same police sources maintain.

The parents did not suspect anything until, given the delay, they notified the center's staff.

It was then that the police protocols were activated to locate M. and little Aimar.

His parents published yesterday through their social networks messages of thanks to both the agents and the citizens, who turned to the search for the child.

The couple has another three-year-old daughter and lives in the Biscayan municipality of Durango.

The Ertzaintza now delves into the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and in the next few hours will make M. available to the judicial authority.
