Giorgia Meloni, head of the far-right "Fratelli d'Italia" (Brothers of Italy) party, was tasked Friday with forming a government by President Sergio Mattarella, according to what the Presidential Secretary-General announced.

Meloni, 45, accepted the responsibility, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the country's history.

Meloni will present her cabinet later on Friday, which will be sworn in on Saturday morning.

Giorgia Meloni is an Italian journalist and politician who leads the "Brothers of Italy" party. She was a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 2006, and was the youngest minister in the history of the Italian Republic when she was appointed on May 8, 2008 as Minister of Youth in Silvio Berlusconi's fourth government (2008-2011).

Meloni also became the first woman candidate for prime minister in Italy after the "Brothers of Italy" led the results of the general elections that were held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, where she is expected to unite with the leader of the "Forza Italia" Silvio Berlusconi and the leader of the "League Party" Matteo Salvini to form The new government.
