"From the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, I have felt the great changes in the motherland in the past ten years, and I have also heard the party's high hopes for our young generation. The excitement is indescribable!" On the 20th, a student studying at Yunnan Nationalities University In an interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com, Qu Yan, a student of the Dulong nationality, recalled watching the opening meeting of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China together with teachers and students of all ethnic groups in the school.

Yunnan, located in southwest China, is a multi-ethnic frontier province where 26 ethnic groups live.

In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the social forms of different ethnic groups in Yunnan were very different.

Some ethnic groups even entered the socialist society one step from the primitive clan society.

Unbalanced development and complex ethnic relations are the provincial conditions of Yunnan.

In October 1950, more than 30 ethnic leaders and their representatives from Pu'er, Yunnan, including Wa, Dai, and Lahu, went to Beijing to attend the National Day ceremony, were cordially received by leaders of the party and the state, and went to Tianjin, Nanjing, Shanghai and other places. visit.

A series of activities increased the recognition of the motherland by the representatives of various ethnic groups. After returning to Pu'er, they expressed their determination to support the leadership of the Communist Party of China and unite to the end in the form of "a union and an inscription on a stone tablet".

This national unity oath monument in Pu'er is known as "the first monument of national unity in New China", and it is the epitome of the great unity of all ethnic groups in the country.

For more than 70 years, the people of all ethnic groups in Yunnan have united and helped each other under the leadership of the party, creating a miracle of development that shakes the world.

The following year, Yunnan University for Nationalities, the predecessor of Yunnan Nationalities University, was established in Kunming, becoming one of the earliest institutions of higher learning for ethnic minorities in China.

At present, the school has more than 30,000 students.

On the morning of the 16th, teachers and students of all ethnic groups in the school, dressed in traditional national costumes, looked forward to watching the opening ceremony of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Qu Yan said his hometown is Weixi Lisu Autonomous County in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

It is located in the heart of the "Three Parallel Rivers" world natural heritage, where many ethnic groups live together.

Historically, due to traffic congestion, lack of resources, and backward technology, Weixi County has been accompanied by poverty for a long time.

In Qu Yan's memory, when he was in elementary school, he had to walk for hours every day on the uneven winding dirt road to reach the school.

"There was no canteen in the school at that time, and my classmates and I cooked by ourselves every noon." Qu Yan recalled.

"Through continuous struggle, we have realized the millennium dream of a well-off the Chinese nation, won the largest poverty alleviation battle in human history, solved the problem of absolute poverty historically, and made a major contribution to the global poverty reduction cause." The young Qu Yan is the witness of this statement in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In May 2020, Weixi County successfully achieved poverty alleviation, ending the history of absolute poverty in the county for thousands of years.

In Qu Yan's eyes, in the past ten years, the wooden houses and adobe houses in his hometown have become small buildings with unique national characteristics, the villages are clean and tidy, and the county town is thriving.

"The biggest change is traffic! In the past, it took more than two days to travel from Weixi County to Kunming, the provincial capital. Now, whether by plane or bus, it can be reached in a few hours." Qu Yan said that schools in his hometown are now equipped with canteens , spacious and clean, with rich dishes, "I'm really happy for my juniors and juniors!"

In the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, it was proposed to "strengthen and improve the party's ethnic work with the main line of consolidating the consciousness of the Chinese nation's community." Qu Yan resonated.

He proudly told reporters that his hometown of Weixi was a model of national unity.

He said that Weixi County is home to Lisu, Naxi, Bai, Tibetan, Yi, Han, Pumi, Nu, Dulong and other ethnic groups, and they live in harmony, respect each other's fine customs, and feel like a big family.

"Whenever the Lisu Nationality's 'Kuanshi Festival', the Yi Nationality's 'Torch Festival', the Tibetan Nationality's 'Horse Racing Festival' and other national festivals, the people of all ethnic groups in Weixi will gather to celebrate together, you have me, I have you ."

Fu Cailiang said that what made him even more unforgettable was the continuous care of the party and the country. Eight years after the earthquake, Ludian has built a happy and beautiful new home on the ruins.

"The convening of the 20th National Congress has made me more grateful and cherished the hard-won happy life today, and it has also made me more clear about our goal of studying and fighting hard." Fu Cailiang is very firm.

"The party and the country have always been concerned about the lives of the Wa people." Napei, a Wa girl from Ximeng Wa Autonomous County in the province, said that now her hometown has completely shaken off poverty and backwardness, and every family has a car and a house and lives a happy life.
