The artillery exercises by North Korea continue and, with them, the tension.

At 5.30 am, Italian time, the Pyongyang army fired another 100 bullets into the waters of the Yellow Sea, west of the Korean peninsula.

A few hours earlier there had been about 250.

The blows, according to the South Korean Chief of Staff, ended up in the western 'buffer zone' established on the basis of a military agreement signed by the two states on 19 September 2018 and created to reduce tensions at the border.

Pyongyang is clearly stepping up its missile launches and military exercises in recent weeks, as Seoul and Washington say North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is ready to conduct what would be his country's seventh nuclear test.

"We urge North Korea to cease its actions immediately," added the head of the Seoul Armed Forces.

"The continuous provocations of North Korea are actions that undermine the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the international community," he continued.

But from Pyongyang they made it known today that yesterday's operations were intended to counter "the enemy's war exercise against the North" along the border.
