After the departure of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt, under the leadership of its president at the time, Muhammad Anwar Sadat, supported the declaration of the establishment of the State of the Union in 1971, and the Egyptian President visited the UAE, after which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, returned the visit to Cairo, presenting the scarf of the family Nahyan for President Sadat.

Relations between the two countries have maintained their strength and solidity, as the UAE has continued to provide support to Egypt's leadership and people. The seventies witnessed a distinguished model in bilateral relations, as the ties between the UAE and Egypt set an example in the relations between Arab countries.

Sheikh Zayed’s support for Egypt with $100 million to rebuild the governorates of the Suez Canal was one of the eternal positions in the process of joint relations, which prompted the Egyptian leadership to name an entire city “Sheikh Zayed” in 1976.

The Emirati-Egyptian relations during the rule of Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak are considered a model of mutual respect and political, economic and commercial cooperation, especially under the umbrella of the friendship bonds that bind the leaders of the two countries during the eighties and nineties.

The historical relations between the two countries culminated in a number of investment agreements, including the Agreement on Trade, Economic and Technological Cooperation between the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Egypt and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in 1988, which aimed to enhance trade exchange and encourage investment.

The Egyptian-Emirati Business Council agreement was also signed in 1993 to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, followed by the 1998 agreement, which includes the establishment of a free trade zone between the UAE and Egypt.

Since the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the visions of the two brotherly countries and their constants in respect of international law, establishing the values ​​of coexistence and acceptance of the other, and resolving differences between countries through political and peaceful means and dialogue have been identical.

The UAE was the first country to support Egypt, and it supported it in various forums and circumstances. This support extended to the cultural aspect, as it was agreed to open the first external branch of Al-Azhar University in the Emirates, in addition to the signing of the Document of Human Fraternity by the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb, with the Pope of the Vatican in 4th of February 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

With the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi assuming the leadership position in Egypt in 2014, the two countries have a complete belief that “investment in stability” is the best way to build the future in the Arab region, and that is why the two countries have worked permanently to promote joint Arab action and unify the Arab voice in the face of All challenges.
