There is a storm surrounding the newly minted Prime Minister of Great Britain, Liz Truss.

A much criticized reform package, which included unfunded tax cuts for high earners, means that her future is very uncertain.

- I think she sits very loosely.

The criticism against her is sometimes merciless.

Not least from their own party - and that is very serious, says SVT's foreign reporter Anna-Maja Persson.

"Extremely hard working"

A majority of Conservative Party members want the Prime Minister to resign, just six weeks after she took office.

On Wednesday, Truss will be questioned in the British House of Commons.

The hearing could be the tip of the scales for Truss, says Anna-Maja Persson.

- She will be employed extremely hard.

If she does well, maybe the chance increases, if she does poorly, I wonder if the party will want to get rid of her right away, she says.

Was warned about the tax cuts

The big tax cuts were a promise from Truss when she was elected party leader.

Once they were unveiled, her government was heavily criticized and the pound plummeted in value.

Her government later backtracked on the proposals, but criticism has nevertheless continued.

- I think that trust in Liz Truss is so damaged that it will be very difficult to restore it, says Anna-Maja Persson.

Johnson favorite to succeed

Among the members of the Conservative Party, there are two favorites to take over in the event of a possible leadership change.

It is about two losers: former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was forced to resign after massive internal criticism, and Rishi Sunak, who lost the party leadership election to Truss.

The fact that the party is divided can speak for Truss being allowed to stay, says Anna-Maja Persson.

- That may be what makes her cope, she says.
