After the Renault 5, the 4L.

The diamond brand announced on Monday at the Paris Motor Show that the Renault 4 will be reborn in 2025 in the form of a small electric SUV.

The 4L, star of the 1960s and 1970s sold eight million copies in 100 countries, will be entitled to a more square descendant, high on wheels, a cousin of the Dacia Duster.

“The 4L is a myth and myths never die,” Renault CEO Luca de Meo said during the presentation.

“It's a car that still speaks to millions of people around the world.

For many, it represented access to the automobile,” he added.

Production planned from the end of 2024

Rectangular grille, wheel arches, capsule rear lights: there are many retro nods to the original model.

But the “4EVER Trophy” concept offers a more aggressive and futuristic all-terrain vision, with massive body protections.

The production model should be softened.

The new R4 will be positioned at the level of the current Captur SUV, i.e. above the Renault 5, which will replace the Clio, and below the electric Mégane.

The concept also displays a luminous, original logo, which should be taken up on the production model.

4.1 meters long, with a 140 horsepower electric motor, "this future vehicle will be at ease both in town and in the countryside", promises Renault.

Neither its price nor its weight have been specified.

Its production is scheduled from the end of 2024 in the Maubeuge factory (North), which manufactures Kangoo utilities.

An electric Renault 5 Turbo for the rally?

Luca de Meo also expressed during the presentation his wish to relaunch another legend of the brand, the Renault 5 Turbo, in an electric version, to compete in the world rally championship.

“We have almost found the technical solution to do it.

We just have to find room in the budgets but if business goes better than expected, we could afford to develop it, "said the boss of the diamond brand, calling on the international federation of automobile (FIA) to change its rules to allow 100% electric cars to enter rallies.

Finally, Luca de Meo also announced the launch of on-board voice assistance in the future electric R5 and 4L which will be able to "learn from its user's data and anticipate their needs".
