The interim director Katrin Vernau has announced further personnel consequences from the affair about possible nepotism at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB).

After the release of legal counsel Susann Lange, there are plans to prematurely end the contract with administrative director Hagen Brandstätter and to advertise the position again, Vernau said at a hearing in the Berlin House of Representatives.

Brandstäter has been on sick leave for some time.

It had to be clarified who could stay on board from the previous management team, said Vernau.

It is also clear that “everyone will be held accountable for their actions”.

The controversial bonus system has not yet been abolished for current contracts.

However, all those affected were asked whether they would voluntarily do without it.

All options for action are currently being examined for the planned digital media house, said Vernau.

The plans were halted a few weeks ago after reports of skyrocketing costs.

It is now a question of regaining lost trust through good leadership, said Vernau.

The interim director has been in office since September 15.

A first partial report from the external law firm commissioned with processing the allegations is expected on Thursday, it said.

The hearing was part of a joint meeting of the media committees of the Brandenburg state parliament and the Berlin house of representatives.

At the beginning of August, the then RBB director Patricia Schlesinger resigned after massive allegations of corruption, taking advantage and wasting contributions and was then dismissed by the supervisory bodies and terminated without notice.

The RBB Board of Directors Chairman Wolf-Dieter Wolf resigned.

The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating Schlesinger, her husband Gerhard Spörl and Wolf on suspicion of infidelity and accepting benefits.
