Last week it was announced that there will be a red-green government in Uppsala - after the coalition was released by the Development Party Democrats.

On Monday, Erik Pelling (S) was formally voted through as chairman of the municipal board.

He got 41 votes, while the Moderates' Therez Almerfors got 40.

Tobias Smedberg (V) was elected first vice-chairman of the municipal board.

"Embarrassingly bad"

The vote was preceded by a heated debate, where all parties spoke before the municipal council.

Criticism was raised from the opposition against the settlement between UP and the red-green bloc.

Some believed that the negotiations were more about political items than substantive policy.

- This election is embarrassingly badly handled, said Sweden Democrats' Kent Kumpula in the podium, among others.

Development Party Democrats party leader Stefan Hanna later responded to speech:

- It is completely false.

We have never once requested that we get a municipal council, he said – a statement that was met with laughter from the audience.
