Pigeon plague discovered in Visby - can infect domestic birds

We are trying to inform those who raise domestic birds so that they do not get the infection into the herds, says county veterinarian Agneta Karlsson Norström, to SVT Nyheter Öst.

Abnormal eggs

Infected birds do not have to die, but they may stop laying eggs or lay abnormally shaped eggs or eggs with a soft shell, the county administrative board writes on its website.

- I have sent three birds to SVA, but I also know that private individuals have sent birds directly there.

I therefore do not know exactly how many infected birds have been found in Visby.

So far, there have been no reports of infected birds in the Gotland countryside.
