A 26-year-old man was the subject of an immediate appearance this Thursday before the criminal court.

He was accused of having beaten Mia, his partner's chihuahua, in Combs-la-Ville (Seine-et-Marne) on September 23.

The four-year-old dog had succumbed to his injuries;

While awaiting his appearance for cruelty to an animal, he was placed under judicial supervision.

On the day of the events, the dog's mistress was absent to prepare for her birthday, planned in a village hall.

When she returned home, she hadn't been able to get in because of a key stuck in the lock.

The defendant and Mia's mistress, now separated, had been living together for a year at the time of the events.

Several animal defense associations have joined as civil parties after the young woman's complaint.
