A transport company and its director were sentenced to high fines in Quimper (Finistère) on Thursday.

They were appearing following the March 2016 death of a 20-year-old employee.

The apprentice student was changing the tire of a coach when it exploded in his face.

It therefore sentenced the company to a fine of 100,000 euros.

The director of the company was given a 36-month suspended prison sentence and will have to pay 20,000 euros.

The person in charge and the transport company appeared in particular for manslaughter by the manifestly deliberate violation of a security obligation.

“The risk of explosion should have been included” in the document concerning the assessment of the various dangers within the company, considered the judges.

“Nobody could have known that it was going to explode”, had however affirmed a person in charge during the hearing.
