The investigating judge Maria Gaspari, accepting the request of the prosecutor Giovanni Musarò, validates the arrest and issues the precautionary measure in prison for Francesco Moretti, 53, accused of having killed, after having run over them with the car, the two Belgian tourists

Wibe Njls and Jess Dewildeman

on the evening of last October 8 in Rome.

The tragedy occurred on the urban section of the A24.

The man was charged with the double road homicide aggravated by running away and driving under the influence of drugs and with his license suspended.

Moretti fled after having overwhelmed the two twenty-year-olds who had stopped to rescue some people who were involved in an accident.

According to the judge in charge of the suspect "there are serious indications of

guilt"

and "there is a real danger of repetition of the crime due to the gravity of the fact and the personality of the suspect".

At the time of the tragic impact, Moretti was in "a condition of total absence of lucidity".

The

narcotest

tested positive for benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates and methadone.

Reconstructing the phases of the accident, the investigating judge states that "the violence of the impact, which resulted in the almost immediate death of the girls, also suggests unequivocally that the suspect proceeded at a speed that, although not yet ascertained, certainly not it was moderate and that he himself declared to be about 80/90 km per hour, therefore higher than the limit of 70 km per hour provided for on that road. It is therefore absolutely incredible that the suspect did not realize that he had hit the two victims, and his immediate escape, as soon as he got out of his car, is proof of this ".

From the attitude of the man after the facts, having

"arbitrarily" distanced himself

from the hospital where he was accompanied by the police who had surprised him in his home, an "absolute lack of resipiscence and awareness of the very serious consequences of his conduct emerges and also makes the danger of escape concrete", concludes the investigating judge .

'' Finally, there is a concrete danger of probative pollution - writes the investigating judge - as, as highlighted by the prosecutor, Moretti disposed of the

mobile phone

he had in use that evening and the following morning, in order to hinder the exact reconstruction facts and his involvement in them ''.
