The gendarmes of the community of brigades of Calvisson arrested a man who was engaged in poaching of a particular type.
He was apprehended in Villevieille, in the Gard, a town located about 25 kilometers west of Nîmes.
He attracted goldfinches, with the help of an individual of this species of protected birds, which he held illegally.
The soldiers were supported by agents of the departmental federation of Gard hunters.
High black market value
These animals are worth a small fortune on the black market, since they sell for several hundred euros.
Their detention can lead to a fine of 150,000 euros and a three-year prison sentence.
The offender will be heard by police shortly.
