The Valence Criminal Court (Drôme) sentenced three men on Wednesday for violence and degradation.

The defendants had brutalized the mayor of Sauzet (Drôme) on June 27, 2021, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

The elected official, Julien Duvoid, intervened that day to try to prevent a group of travelers from settling in his town, not far from Montélimar.

After the assault, the city councilor filed a complaint and legal proceedings were initiated.

Reimburse the damage

Two of the men received 4 and 5 months suspended sentences for the violence.

The third was not convicted for the assault but only for the damage.

They will also have to pay 800 euros for material damage and 800 euros to the mayor for moral damage.

The association of mayors of the Drôme, civil party, will receive a symbolic euro.
