In the center of the Slovakian capital Bratislava, an attacker shot dead two men and seriously injured a waitress in front of a gay bar on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday morning, the police announced that they had identified the perpetrator.

The police wrote on their official Facebook page that he was dead.

The Tepláre bar, in front of which the two men were shot, is a meeting place for the LGBTI scene and advertises itself as a "lovely gay bar in Bratislava centre".

As "The Slovak Spectator" reports, the bar is said to be one of the few LGBTI bars in Bratislava.

The perpetrator is said to have waited a while in front of the bar until around 7 p.m., as eyewitnesses reported to the media, he fired seven to ten shots at the visitors.

As the news portal "Sme.sk" reported, one of the two men is said to have worked in the bar.

Both victims were under 30 years old.

The waitress is in the hospital and is said to be out of danger.

"We are dismayed by the shooting and the deaths in Tepláreň, a place where we meet regularly," wrote the NGO Dúhový Pride Bratislava on Facebook.

Homophobic motive suspected

The gunman is said to have previously confessed to the crime on social networks before he presumably killed himself.

The 19-year-old published hate messages against sexual minorities and a kind of manifesto with homophobic content on Twitter and another network for hours the night after the crime.

On Thursday morning, the two accounts were no longer accessible.

Due to ongoing investigations, the police initially did not want to confirm that the two network accounts actually belonged to the perpetrator and that the messages came from him.
