Tomorrow, Thursday, Algeria will witness the signing of a reconciliation charter between the Palestinian factions, at the conclusion of the "Uniting for Palestinian National Unity" conference, which started on Tuesday.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ramzi Rabah, said that the final document of the charter includes the election of the Palestinian National Council within a year on the basis of laws and a full proportional representation system, and the formation of a national unity government within a year on the basis of an agreed program.

The head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, said, "This meeting is a good beginning, and that the movement expresses its satisfaction with its results after an atmosphere of positivity and ease prevailed, and not to interfere in imposing any vision."

The Secretary-General of the Palestinian Initiative Movement, Mustafa Barghouti, confirmed that the Palestinian factions agreed on the Algerian National Accord Document.

Barghouti said in a brief press statement that the Palestinian factions successfully completed their dialogues in Algeria and agreed on the Algerian National Accord Document.

Anadolu Agency reported that the draft of the Algerian reconciliation paper includes adopting a good language for dialogue, establishing the principle of political partnership, strengthening the role of the Liberation Organization, electing the National Council according to an agreed formula, holding legislative and presidential elections in all Palestinian areas, and forming a national unity government that adheres to international legitimacy.

The items also include unifying national institutions, activating a work mechanism for the faction’s general secretaries to facilitate the government’s work, and forming an Algerian-Palestinian team with Arab participation to monitor the implementation of the agreement.

Since the summer of 2007, the Palestinian arena has been suffering from a political and geographical division, as Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, while the West Bank is administered by a government formed by President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.
