Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the national railway network in the UAE, announced the completion of the main works of the national railway network, by completing the main track works in the emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, as part of the last package of the second phase of the Etihad Rail project. The company has completed the laying of railway tracks for the main track, which extends from the Ghuwaifat area on the border with Saudi Arabia, passing through the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

The company is also continuing the work of laying railway tracks in the Emirate of Fujairah to be completed in the coming weeks, to come closer to completing the development of the national railway network, according to the approved schedule, in line with the objectives of the "National Railways Program", the largest integrated system for sustainable transport in the Emirates. The state, which aims to link the emirates of the state via railways, and accelerate comprehensive development.

The track extends in the Emirate of Sharjah for a distance of 45 km, as part of the last package of the project, which extends over a distance of 145 km.

The work on linking the emirate to the main line took more than 11.7 million hours in 25 months, during which about 2,900 people from the workforce, experts and engineers participated, as it included installing railway tracks and conducting quality tests for the new track.

While the track extends in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah for a distance of 5.7 kilometers, and the work on linking the emirate to the main line took 1.3 million hours within 25 months, during which about 350 people from the workforce, experts and engineers participated.

Engineer Kholoud Al Mazrouei, Deputy Project Director of Etihad Rail, said: "We have made great strides by completing the main works of the national railway network, and linking it to the main track in the emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, which brings us closer to the completion of the national railway network according to the approved schedule. In line with the objectives of Etihad Rail, which aims to provide an efficient and sustainable transport network, and works to link the emirates of the country with the region, towards opening future prospects in the transport and supply sector, enabling community development, and contributing to providing promising economic opportunities.
