The verdict came after three weeks of testimony in a state court in Waterbury, Connecticut, not far from where a gunman killed 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook in December 2012. Jones argued for years that the massacre was staged as part of a secret plan designed by the government to tighten gun laws.

Attorneys for the families of eight Sandy Hook victims said during the trial that Jones made money for years from lies about the shooting, which drove traffic to his Infowars website and increased sales of various products.

In August, another court ruled that Jones and his company should pay $49.3 million (about SEK 556 million) to the parents.
