The police have started a mountain rescue after a Danish man, living in southern Sweden, was reported missing on Monday afternoon.

The last time the man had contact with a friend or relative was on October 4, when he announced that he was north of Idre.

At lunchtime on Tuesday, the man's car was found in a parking lot in Grövelsjön.

According to information given to the police, the car should have been seen in the same place already on Sunday.

The man must have been hiking for up to three weeks, and was equipped with tents and provisions to cope with this, but is not a seasoned mountain hiker.

He is now being sought by the police and mountain rescuers with a helicopter and dog patrols.

The police urge anyone who thinks they know something about the man to call 114 14 immediately.
