Shortly before 10 pm on Tuesday evening, the police received an alarm about explosions that seemed to come from firearms in Märsta north of Stockholm.

A scream was heard in connection with the explosions.

- The police received calls from several callers who alerted about explosions from what sounded like firearms and in connection with this screams were heard from a parking lot in the area, says Rebecka Landberg, press spokesperson at the police.

When the police arrived at the scene, an uncontactable person was found with gunshot wounds to the chest.

Life-saving efforts began at the scene and the extent of the damage is currently unclear.

An ambulance has been called to the scene.

The police have started a hunt for the perpetrators and have cordoned off the scene for a technical investigation.

- Door knocking and conversations with witnesses in the area are currently underway.
