A bit into Tuesday evening, negotiations were still going on between the four parties in Ulf Kristersson's government documents.

- My feeling has previously been that this would work out, because all four parties have invested so much prestige in this.

But when you hear the Liberals today, it sounds like there is still a long way to go, says Helena Gissén, political commentator for the newspaper Expressen.

Ulf Kristersson had probably expected to be done by now, believes SVT's domestic political commentator Mats Knutson.

- It would be a great loss of prestige for him if he were forced to ask for more time, considering that in the election campaign he played down the differences of opinion between the parties, he says.

Unity a mantra in the election campaign

During the election campaign, Ulf Kristersson repeatedly emphasized that the four parties are in agreement on a number of important issues.

Mats Knutson believes that the M leader may have suffered from some kind of "election fever".

- It is possible that he underestimated the substantive issues where the parties are further apart, but also the ideological gap that exists between L and SD, says Mats Knutson.

Some possible issues of contention in the negotiations, where the parties have different opinions, are unemployment benefits, migration, aid and public service.

- I think there are problems in all possible directions, but these may be issues where things have gotten stuck.

Public service is incredibly sensitive to L, it hurts them if they are forced to agree to cuts, says Helena Gissén.

I think Kristersson will succeed

However, both lean towards Ulf Kristersson, sooner or later, getting a government together.

- It is incredibly important for Ulf Kristersson that he can handle this and stay together for four years.

But unsworn is best, says Helena Gissén.

Mats Knutson:

- I think that Kristersson will be able to form this government because they have been in opposition for eight years.

It would be a disaster for M if you fail when you now get the chance.

Then there will be a term of office with a lot of noise and banging in the Riksdag.
