The Greek coast guard announced that a new body was found on Tuesday after two boats that sank last week in the Aegean Sea, Greece, carrying migrants, bringing the death toll to at least 30.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Turkish Coast Guard Command stated that 38 irregular migrants were rescued off the coast of Izmir, in southwestern Turkey.

The body of a woman was recovered Tuesday off the island of Kythira in the south of the Greek Peloponnese peninsula, where a sailing boat carrying 95 migrants ran aground Wednesday night, Thursday, when strong winds were blowing in this area.

80 people were rescued in this drowning accident.

One of them was arrested Saturday, suspected of being a smuggler.

Also, at least 18 people, most of them women, died in another drowning accident off the island of Lesbos in the northeastern Aegean Sea in the eastern Mediterranean at dawn on Thursday.

The boat was transporting 40 Somalis, of whom only 10 were wearing life jackets, according to the Greek authorities.

In the first eight months of the year, the Greek coast guard rescued 1,500 people, 600 more than last year.

Athens is often accused of forcibly returning migrants and refugees from neighboring Turkey, while Athens accuses Ankara of being responsible for drownings in the Aegean Sea separating the two countries.

rescue migrants

In the same context, the Turkish Coast Guard Command said in a statement on Tuesday that its crews rescued 38 irregular migrants off the coast of the southwestern state of Izmir.

The statement stated that its crews had received information about the presence of irregular migrants on a rubber boat off the coast of "Dikli" district in Izmir.

The statement indicated that the command sent a ship to the region and rescued 38 migrants who were on the boat after they were pushed from the Greek side towards Turkish territorial waters, according to the statement.

The Turkish Coast Guard command also announced last week the rescue of 143 irregular migrants in rubber boats off the coast of Izmir, noting also that the Greek side pushed them towards Turkish territorial waters.
