London-born actress Angela Lansbury has died aged 96.

This was announced by her family on Tuesday.

Accordingly, Lansbury died in his sleep.

For around eight decades, the native Briton embodied numerous characters in film, television and theater.

She was seen in the films "The House of Lady Alquist", "The Picture of Dorian Grey", "The Ambassador of Fear" and "Death on the Nile".

She gained international fame primarily for her role as Jessica Fletcher in the crime series "Murder is Her Hobby".

Lansbury has won six Golden Globes and five Tony Theater and Musical Awards.

The actress has been nominated for an Oscar three times.

Lansbury would have been 97 next Sunday.
