At least four children were injured after gunmen opened fire on two school buses in northwest Pakistan on Monday.

The first attack took place in Swat, the birthplace of Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, where the driver was killed and a teenager injured by two bullets.

"The assailants were riding a motorbike and fled the scene of the accident. A search operation has begun to arrest them," Swat Police spokesman Mehran Ali told dpa.

He added that the injured student's condition is stable, and he is out of danger.

The second attack took place in Lower Dir district, outside Swat, and injured three students, according to Gulnaz Khan of Lower Dir district police.

No party has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the incident has renewed concerns about a re-gathering of Taliban militants in the area.
