Instagram and Twitter imposed restrictions on the accounts of American rapper Kanye West, also known as "Yeah", after he posted comments described as anti-Semitic, while followers launched a campaign against him because of his recent positions.

A Twitter spokeswoman told AFP on Sunday that Kanye West's account had been suspended for violating the social network's rules.

A spokeswoman for Meta, the parent company of Instagram, said the group had removed the contents, without specifying it, from Yeh's account for violating its rules.

Instagram also imposed restrictions on the well-known singer's account, which may include preventing him from publishing, writing comments or sending private messages, according to the same source.

Kanye West - an artist of African descent - has caused a stir on social media since he wore a T-shirt with the words (White Lives Matter) written on it during Paris Fashion Week.

This phrase refers to the name of the famous (Black Lives Matter) movement, which means "Black Lives Matter" in Arabic, whose slogan was the anti-racism demonstrations in the summer of 2020 in the United States.

On Instagram, Yeh, 45, posted screenshots of conversations he had last Friday with rapper Diddy, who criticized the T-shirt and its message.

Letters and accusations

"I will use you as an example to show the Jews who have asked you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me," Kanye West wrote.

The post was later deleted, but copies of it are still visible on the Internet.

Then on Twitter, Kanye West said in a later deleted tweet that he intended to attack Jews.

The social network indicated that the post violated its rules.

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) accused the rapper of promoting "Jew-hatred".

"Kanye West must find a way to make his point without resorting to anti-Semitism," she said.

Yeh, who suffers from bipolar disorder, has been a frequent controversy, having previously been banned from Instagram for 24 hours in March, in the midst of his turbulent divorce from reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

The rapper is also on the verge of parting with adidas, which has said it intends to "re-evaluate" its collaboration.
