The municipality lacks staff for 80 of the 1,700 annual workers needed in the municipal home service and in the municipality's nursing homes.

- Something that, among other things, is made more difficult by the historically low unemployment in Skellefteå, says Katarzyna Wikström, head of administration for the social office.

Right now, 20 out of a total of 914 places in nursing homes in Skellefteå municipality are empty due to the staffing situation.

Ukrainians have started working in healthcare

To temporarily resolve the situation, employees from the "Support and premises" administration have been moved into the care for the elderly, where they take care of cleaning and laundry.

New starters - people who have had a long absence from the labor market - also help with that.

The aim is to give regular staff more time for caring work.

The municipality has had a project to get people who came from Ukraine into work.

This is described as successful.

- 11 have already started working with service tasks and now roughly 20 more people are ready to work within our operations, says Ejja Häman Aktell, head of department for Care and Care.
