After the death of the Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, a series of protests have flared up in Iran.

So also in Uppsala, where the largest group, after Syria and Iraq, with a foreign background are Iranians.

In 2020, Uppsala municipality had over 5,000 people with roots in Iran.

- The protests can be interpreted as a showdown against political Islam, says Mohammad Fazlhashemi, professor of Islamic theology and philosophy at Uppsala University.

He says that there has been dissatisfaction for a long time, not least among the young.
